“ANGEL”
A homeless stranger, Angel Bagley, appears in the home of successful artist, Tilly March, and her oilman husband, Callum March, alleging a complex past involvement with the couple. Angel asserts that when he was once a successful painter in Alberta, Tilly was his lover and protégé, and Callum was a troubled youth who had come to work at his rural farm for the summer. Callum stole Tilly from Angel and the two left for New York to reinvent their lives into their present identities. Now years later, Callum’s oil company has bilked Angel of his land and his worth. On the eve of Tilly’s latest gallery opening, Angel takes the couple hostage to exact revenge and demand his artwork be shown with Tilly’s. Is Angel’s version of the past founded on truth or is he a delusional homeless artist desperately seeking a moment of fame and notoriety.
Funded through a Toronto Arts Council Senior Artist Playwrights award, the play will be workshopped at the North American Cultural Laboratories in New York, and at the Tarragon Theatre, Toronto.
